DNP METALLIC: USE AND HANDLING OF CONSUMABLES

In the previous post we commented on the characteristics and appreciations of this DNP Metal consumable. If you have decided to purchase this material or want to know more details about its use, I think there are two issues that are essential to know before using it. First of all, the recommendation to use the profile supplied by DNP, because as I mentioned in the previous post, the paper is not white, but metallic gray, so if we print as we usually do, we will probably notice that the colors lack intensity. To correct this, we will apply a specific printing profile for this paper. On the other hand, it is important to know that, if we are not very careful, we may run out of paper without having used all the copies indicated on the box, so be sure to read this section as well.

With other types of equipment (inkjet printers, plotters…) we are more accustomed to change color profiles for each paper we use (matte, glossy, satin, more or less weight…) but in this equipment where printing is so fast and fluid, perhaps all this may seem a little laborious, but it is also true that when you have it by hand, it is a matter of seconds. I fully understand that if you have never been involved in these issues, all this may seem a bit of a “roll” beforehand, but I think that in this case it is essential to know it and that is the purpose of this post.

To apply the DNP Metallic color profile with a DNP Kiosk follow the steps below:

1. Download the DNP profile for the LX Metallic consumable and save it e.g. on a USB flash drive: DS620_Metallic_Ultra
2. Connect this flash drive e.g. to the front USB port of the DNP Kiosk.
3. Next we will enter the kiosk configuration section(Note: If you do not remember how to enter the “administrator” section of the kiosk to access the “configuration” click HERE).

4. Select “Configuration”.

5. Now, “Printer parameters”.

6. Select where indicated “Custom Color Profile DS620“.

7. Select the profile that we have saved in the pendrive and that is connected to the kiosk.

8. Check that the Metallic profile is now loaded, press OK and Return to service to print with the DNP Metallic consumable.

9. IMPORTANT: Once the usual consumable is loaded again, it must be put back to the way it was. If you have never loaded any profile, we will leave it asdefault and we will explain this below, but if you had a custom profile, remember to locate it to set it again according to the steps just explained.

10. To remove the metal profile and return to the default one, follow the same steps as I have explained and when you get to point 7, in the profile selection screen, tap the “DS620 Custom Profile” option ➜ you will get the window for you to select a profile, but this time do not select anything and click on “Cancel”. Then the following message will appear where you will have to click “YES”:

APPLY THE DNP METALLIC COLOR PROFILE WITH WINDOWS

PROFILE DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION

1. Download the DNP profile for the LX Metallic ➜ DS620_Metallic_Ultra consumable.
2. Locate the file where you saved it, and then “Install the Profile”, if you don’t know how to do it, follow the next steps:

With the mouse pointer, hover over the file ➜ click the right mouse button ➜ select “Install profile”.

Note: once done, there is no more message, it looks like you have done nothing, but the profile will be available to be used by Windows and by all the software you are using on the computer such as. Photoshop

PRINT WITH WINDOWS USING A SPECIFIC PROFILE

1. Now we are going to do the printing process, and during the process we will change the profile to use this particular new profile.

As usual, we select the images to print ➜ Right mouse button ➜ Print ➜ Select the DS620 printer and Print Size, then choose “Options” and “Color Management”:

2. Once in the Windows Color Management settings section, select the values indicated in the image and then click on “add”:

3. Find and select the profile ➜ OK:

4. Select the Metallic Ultra profile and click on “Set as default” ➜ Close.

5. Now, the Color Manager for printing will already be using these new settings. Now all that remains is to select print to see the results:

Note: You will now have this configuration to print the DNP Metallic consumable with your DNP DS620, so when you switch back to regular DNP paper, you must return to the configuration you had before this change.

MANAGING THE ROLE OF THE METAL CONSUMABLE: LOADING WITHOUT INITIAL OUTAGES

We have to think that every time we load a roll of paper in the DNP DS620 printer, it makes 5 paper cuts. This is of no importance unless it is done intensively, since if we add loads and loads of the same reel, as it is a special paper, we will undoubtedly finish the paper before the ribbon.

Note: Remember that it is not the reel of paper, but the ribbon, which is what is actually counted to make the copies indicated on the box, that marks the number of copies that a box of consumables has.

To avoid running out of paper prematurely, we can make a paper load without the 5 initial cuts, and this is what I will explain below. When doing this, we must keep in mind that the printer will not be discarding the part of the paper that we have touched with our fingers when loading. Actually the recommendation is to do it with gloves, but if you see this “complicated”, say that it is a paper that is not marked excessively, but this depends on the hands (grease, sweat or dirt that we leave when we touch the paper), so if you do not want to leave marks, dry and clean hands. I have done it on several occasions and I have not had marks, but I can not guarantee it because it is a matter of the skin of the hands of each one and the environmental situation of dust or particles.

How to load the DS620 printer so that it does not make the initial 5 cuts:

1. Open the printer drawer and load the consumable normally, inserting the paper and making the double loading beep (as usual), but DO NOT close the paper drawer.
2. Without having closed the printer drawer, locate the button on the left side of the paper drawer as shown in the image and hold it down for approximately 3 seconds until it beeps.

Now you can close the drawer, and you will see that the printer turns green and is ready to print without having made the 5 paper cuts.
